March Of The Spoons
A geeky cutlery update. I suffered serious shock and horror in Liverpool when there wasn’t a single Beatle encrusted spoon to be found. Not even one with Paul’s foppish grin. One themed with a bit of Brit Pride feat. the liver bird sufficed.
Manchester - described as Barcelona of the North by Lonely Planet is obviously a cultured place. Despite trotting around the city for 6 hours on foot I didn’t find a single tacky souvenir shop. I really like that. A classy act. There are only subtle clues that Manchester appreciates tourists but the entire city is lovingly laid out with a simple way-finding system. You can almost feel local wandering around. Anyway, on the spoon front I wandered into a pawn shop and enquired. The proprietor dug deep, pulling out an entire box of spoons… but sadly there was no Manchester silver in between Aberdeen, Cheesedale, New York City etc. So I got the next best thing - the pony spoon instead. Awesome. Oh and amethyst topped one - in the spirit of the day’s vintage shopping.
Yeah. Spoons. Still seeking someone to teach me to play them and then we may have an audio visual feature on our hands.

the UK is probably not the best place to find someone to play the spoons. Try the deep south of the USA. I’m rather jealous of the vintage shopping though, back here there is a definite lackluster amount of decent second hand stores. Actually, the stuff we have down here in Christchurch is more just old mens old cricket gear, *shudder*. Really makes me want to visit the homeland now..
