In-van entertainment sytem

It seemed like a great idea at the time; eveyone has ten minutes to run into an HMV strore and buy a CD to play in the van.  We’d been a little light on the sounds while in the highlands and now we were in the lo-lands it was time to pump out the jams m*fs.

Amber bought the new Grace Jones album, great choice! Check out Corporate Canibal below.

Duncan got the Diplo compilation album Decent work for decent pay, check out a track below…

Duncan (the editor of real groove magazine) chose Girls Aloud, you should be ashamed of yourself my Greive! Video below

Jadie got us some Amy Winehouse, video below

Sri was ready for Manchester with the Stone Roses first album (second one was alright too you know, most people overlook that, but there are some gems on it, but nothing beats the fools gold 12inch for rumbling baselines) great choice!

Cushla thought lateraly and bought the box set of the peep show which started a mad peep show “gold rush” back in to HMV so everyone could get one.

Peter got remember remember from Glasgow, check out their myspace page

What the F?

So we had our playlist all sorted, at least for the day, got back to the van to find that the stereo didn’t work! We called the hire company, got hold of the “radio man” roddy who knows all about this kind of thing…

“have you tried turning it oan?”

That was the extend of Roddy’s knowledge/ help, oh well…a pair of speakers was in our future, but at least here on the web we can get an incling of what that journey might have been like if the stezza was working.

OK, some of us have done the visit to the UK- we saw the Tower of London, went to the odd castle and picturesque village and oh how we loved it. But Altalbion makes me realise how much more there is to Britain - art from Blake to Banksy, music from opera to Optimo, the old intertwined with the strangely new. I found things I’d never heard of that I want to see or hear or touch, people and places I to visit. The variety, the choice- truly something for everyone. Please, can I go? NOW?

I have a married daughter living in England so visits as frequently as the pursestrings and aging bones allow. This year was not on the agenda, but would be warmly welcomed for the above reasons plus it would be nice to side-step the winter here….thanks

Would love to catch up with my big sister as she is 30 this year. Haven’t seen her for ages but chat on the phone. I have a disability so would need Mum or Dad to travel with me. Mum’s typing this and not sure what she is doing so perhaps Dad should come with me!!!

Air New Zealand is my favourite airline and would love to travel via Air New Zealand to the land of my birth, where I would love to see the last few relatives that I knew when I emigrated to New Zealand 52 years ago. Don’t know much about Alt Albion but would like to learn.

The aftermath of surgery for quadruple heart bypass in January 1997 caused me to want to go to London and walk around Britain for charity - for the British Heart Foundation. Later, while planning it, I found another heart bypass survivor who wanted to join me in this trek, and we included the Retts Syndrome Association (UK) as a charity.
My website is all about that planned walk, and an additional which I was proposing to do around New Zealand the following year, to aid the NZ Heart Foundation.
It took years to sort out a route, and to try to get the sponsorship we’d need. Finally it was decided to set out from London immediately after the 2009 London Marathon. I still had no word on airline ticket sponsors.
Sadly, I fell ill in May/June 2008, and had surgery to bypass an aortic aneurysm on 4 November 2008, at Tauranga Hospital. This has put paid to plans for the 2009 and 2010 charity walks as yet, since I need full recovery before training again to get up to distance walking daily.
So, altalbion means mainly a chance to win free flights to Britain for my wife and myself, to meet up with so many people who had offered help for the British charity walk; as well as being a website I was not aware of, which is all about other people’s thoughts and reports on visiting Britain.

  9. Lennore Simpson,

All of the above. Altalbion has been a long time coming but wonderful things are worth waiting for. Imagine seeing and being where we started from and all else that goes with it.
