White Air Festival
I went to this last year – it was amazing. So much fun – I wish they had something like that over this side of the world. I found this on you tube and had to post it…

UK adventures #3
Amber wrote a great piece over at Code for Something about the AltAlbion tour’s adventures in Liverpool and Manchester, well worth checking out.
Wierd Science
They spend their lives searching for the Almasty, the yowie, big foot and the loch ness monster. They are called Cryptozoologists and David Farrier caught up with one of the greats; Richard Freeman when we were in London and asked him if he ever gets scared? Video after the jump.
Portmeirion
One of the places I really wanted to visit when we were in the UK was Portmeirion, the location for cult sixties show “The Prisoner” starring Patric McGoohan (yup that really was his name). Video after the jump.
Karl Pilkington
While we were over in the UK, David farrier managed to catch up with karl Pilkington. Check out the interview after the jump.
How best to avoid Jet lag, a non-scientific test; Method 1
So, I’ve done this Auckland to London thing and back quite a few times now. I’m becoming a bit of an old hand. I’ve flown via Singapore, via Bangkok, via KL and every time I’ve done it I’ve experienced some degree of shameful exhaustion upon arrival. “Great to see you but I’m going to bed [...]
Spitalfields/ Sunday Up market

located In the East End of London between the vintage shops, galleries, pubs and graffiti of trendy Shoreditch and the nearby the spic and span outlets of Liverpool Street, Spitalfields market is a great place to pick up antiques and collectables of all kinds while Sunday Up Market nearby, close to Brick Lane, offers wonderful [...]
Camden Market

Camden market, located in the infamous center for alternative culture in North London, Camden market is a regular pilgrimage for many an English youngster. There’s a vast selection of things you can pick up here, but it’s particularly good for clothes, jewellery and collector’s items.
The best thing about Liverpool?
Well if you ask anyone in Liverpool they will say the night life. If you ask me it has to be the accent! Video evidence after the jump.
sixty pictures from the London Eye

We had an amazing time, thanks to Craig our wonderful host for the trip. I almost didn’t make it to the Eye but I am so happy that I did, highly recomend it to everyone.
‘We’ll Always Have Brighton’

Of all the places I have been, who knew that the small seaside resort of Brighton would steal my heart. Paris I have cheated. Brighton stretches along the coast, her neo-classical architecture gracious and stoic, ripples along the impossibly pebbly beach. Driving in at night, the pier all lights and motion looks like small cloisters [...]
Monsters in London

While many of my blogging comrades were doing things you should do in London (wine, gigs, beautiful people etc), I jumped in a cab and found my way to the Grant Museum of Zoology at London’s University College. Sort of like the UK’s AUT I imagine.
After looking about in the Darwin building’s specimen room (some creatures in [...]
S as in… Sodom
Upon arriving in London you’re bombarded with messages to go out to see a show, a band, a comedian. Or a film. One such omnipresent poster was for Anvil: The Story of Anvil. And it worked.
The trailer plays like it’s mockumentary, but rather than adding to that now rather moribund genre, Anvil is hilariously, heartbreakingly [...]
Beer and Herstory

There is so much to do in London, that it can be overwhelming. Sometimes just following your nose is all you need to do. We started in Spitalfields and ended in Soho, on a journey involving local pubs, a small Mexican bar, a tired sad hipster joint, someone’s house, and a downstairs club.
#15 Live Comedy

Last night Peter and I had the pleasure of checking out some proper English comedy at the Laughing Boy Comedy Club at The Oxford in Kentish Town.
Upstairs at the Oxford is a intimate lounge like environment, complete with plush leather couches. It’s like having a few comedians over for a beer.
Last nights line up was [...]

Alternative shopping

Shopping in the UK is amazing. Cheap (even with the crazy crap exchange rate working against us), massive selection and friendly helpful staff in almost all stores. I am not going to bore you with the details of all the regular shopping though, suffice to say it is rad. Jump in for my summary of crazy shopping destinations in the UK..
Honey I’m Home
Over the last 24hrs I have I walked a couple of New Zealanders from Commercial St down Brick Lane, into Vibe bar for a quick half, to the Jewish Deli that is always open for a bagel (or baigel). To Liverpool St via Spitalfields market, a tube to Old St (for the sake of it) a [...]

Hyde Park: A Dream Come True.

Always wanted to come to London’s Hyde Park. I enjoy parks and heard this one was particularly good. And it was.
#11: Peaches Geldof’s Tattoos

The Brits really love their tabloids. From a 13 year old father in a devil mask, to Peaches Geldof frolicking on the beach, they are grossly compelling, and a great way to pass the time in airports and hotel lobbies.
