#22 UVA and interaction design

Britain leads the way when it comes to live interaction design with the likes of UVA and Joel Gething Lewis hailing from the great isle, and young whipper snappers like Toxi deciding to live in amongst the London urban sprawl.  When you see their incredible work for people like the chemical brothers, Massive Attack, the mighty basement Jaxx and U2 it is almost impossible to imagine this stuff coming out of anywhere but London.  Videos after the jump

“There shall be but one mistress here, and no master.”

What is a country without her people? The National Portrait Gallery may sound like a snore, but its a truely wonderful gallery, a memorial to all the lives who have wandered through Britain, and made her what she is.

On the Wall

This has been a trip of visual firsts - my first beautiful Blake prints at Tate Liverpool, the first much lauded Picasso, a few cheeky Warhols and my favourite to date - a piece by modern Brit icon Mr. Banksy.
We found it off Oxford St; the ‘discovery’ felt pretty excellent, tucked in behind a [...]

William Blake at Tate Liverpool

Liverpool has more galleries than any other city in the UK, aside from London. With only one day to explore, the obvious choice is the Tate Liverpool.

March Of The Spoons

A geeky cutlery update. I suffered serious shock and horror in Liverpool when there wasn’t a single Beatle encrusted spoon to be found. Not even one with Paul’s foppish grin. One themed with a bit of Brit Pride feat. the liver bird sufficed.

The Liver Bird

I took an early morning walk down to the docks in Liverpool and saw the most wonderful architecture. On the edge of the river you’ll find Liver Building - the most famous in the city. It’s a big building, built in 1911. You can’t miss it - it’s the one with twin clock towers and [...]

Tate Liverpool

You know those moments that force you to look at your life, your neuroses and your clumsy attempts at creativity in perspective and then soundly draw you to the conclusion that you’re actually a semi-talented insignificant speck?
I’d really like to recommend one of those to you. I had one today and it was beyond awesome.
William Blake was [...]

#10: New Zealander’s Who’ve Done Gud.

Rhys Darby. He’s a kiwi chap. In a new movie. Opening soon… The Boat That Rocked.
Looks fun.
David.

Forbidden Planet.

So I sort of was a bit panicky thinking Liverpool would be all Football heads running about drinking beer, maybe commiting crimes etc - and it sort of is I suppose - but it’s also quite civilized.
I can tell it’s civilized because it has what every civilized place has: A toy store. A toy [...]

Man with Two Sheep and a Stormy Face

The Drovers Inn at Loch Lomond was built in 1705. Among the portraits and taxidermy that cling languidly to its walls were the following beautiful examples of the painting genre.
Man with Two Sheep and a Stormy Face is the best painting I’ve seen in a long time.
He could be marrying two sheep, or reading them [...]

Miniature art : Little people everwhere

Are “little people” the new street Art? Is Slinkachu is the new Banksy?
